The fifth graders at Remington Traditional graduated from the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program on Tuesday during a ceremony in the school’s library.
The program, which is taught by Maryland Heights police officer Bob Heitert, gives students the skills they need to recognize and resist the pressures that may cause them to experiment with drugs or become involved in unhealthy activities.
Several district activities have been canceled this year due to the pandemic, but Heitert was determined to hold this event because it’s a culmination of a lot of things for the students.
Senior Kaeli Benedict was selected as this year's St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete from Pattonville High School.
In its 55th year, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch Scholar Athlete program honors one student from every area school, a requirement being that they participate in athletics and excel in the classroom.
Benedict is ranked No. 15 in the Class of 2021 and has played soccer and basketball for the Pirates. She will continue her academic and soccer career at Missouri State University.
For the first time since December 2019, an in-person concert was held at Holman Middle School. The sixth, seventh and eighth grade Villemade and in-person band students took a “field trip” to Gym A to perform for one another.
