Fourteen students from Pattonville Heights Middle School had poems selected for publication in “Empowered - We’ve Got the Power.” The national poetry contest for middle and high school students was coordinated by Young Writers USA.

Today, seventh grade English language arts teacher Tara Jones transformed her classroom to Jones’ Cafe to celebrate all of the students that submitted and were accepted for publication. Each student received a certificate and enjoyed donuts as volunteers read their poem aloud to the group.

Seniors in the Biomedical Innovations course at Pattonville High School presented their capstone research projects on May 10. 

“They have been working on this project in some capacity for the entire school year and were excited to share what they learned,” Project Lead The Way biomedical science teacher Jamie Jobe said. 

The students were able to choose what they researched and planned their ideas with Jobe after taking a field trip to a working science lab at Washington University in St. Louis in the fall.

The Pattonville Board of Education held a special recognition on May 10 to honor and thank two parent volunteers who led an effort in support of the district’s $111 million no-tax-rate-increase bond issue on the April 5 election ballot. Parents Andrea Snowden and Jackie Wasser co-chaired the volunteer campaign for Prop S. Pattonville voters approved Prop S by 79.4%, the highest approval rating of any school measure in the state during the April 5 election, according to Dr. Tim Pecoraro, superintendent. Approximately 57.14% was required for the measure to pass.

Each month during the school year, the Pattonville Board of Education honors students, staff and volunteers who have gained recognition outside of the district. Students and staff from Bridgeway and Rose Acres elementary schools, Pattonville Heights Middle School and Pattonville High School were recognized in April.

Pattonville bus drivers Jim Dickerson, Regina Dunmire and Greg Zemblidge placed second as a team at the Missouri Association for Pupil Transportation Regional Safety Competition on May 7 at Affton High School. In the individual division, Zemblidge finished second overall and Dickerson earned third place. Bus driver Brenda Vitale also participated in the event. All four drivers will compete at the state school bus safety competition in Camdenton, Missouri, at the end of June.
