Elementary students participate in Hour of Code

The Hour of Code takes place annually during Computer Science Education Week and is being celebrated this year at all of the elementary schools from Dec. 9-15. The Hour of Code started as a one-hour introduction to computer science to show that anybody can learn the basics and to broaden participation in the field of computer science.

Donations help Pattonville Heights families during holiday season

Pattonville schools are getting into the spirit of giving during the holiday season. 
“Several years ago, we started a giving tree to help out families during the holidays,” Pattonville Heights Middle School eighth grade counselor Dawn Osman said. “It started with a tree in the counseling office with ornaments that [Heights staff members] would pick off the tree to get items for students.”

62 Pattonville students named AP Scholars

Sixty-two Pattonville High School students have been recognized for their outstanding performance on the college-level Advanced Placement (AP) exams taken last spring. The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school and to receive college credit, advanced placement or both for a successful performance on the course’s respective AP exam. Only about 20 percent of the more than 2.1 million high school students worldwide who took AP exams performed at a level to merit the recognition of AP Scholar.

Drummond counselor named inaugural winner of award

Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks, and at the November St. Ann Neighborhood Watch meeting, the police department thanked Drummond Elementary counselor Ms. Carla Robertson with the first-ever Robertson Award. The inaugural presentation of this new community service award is named in her honor.

Elementary schools participate in free reading programs

A lot of parents probably have the fond memory as a kid of reading and earning a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. Well, guess what? The Pizza Hut BOOK IT! Program is still a thing and several Pattonville elementary schools participate in the program. In fact, there are several reading programs available to students, including ones through the St. Louis County Library and Six Flags.

Bridgeton Kiwanis collects plastic and money for district benches

A total of 13 Buddy Benches made from recycled plastic are on the playgrounds and campuses of all the Pattonville schools. The Bridgeton Kiwanis Club began collecting plastic bottle caps and lids to convert into Buddy Benches which is a simple idea to eliminate loneliness and foster friendships on the playground. Each elementary school received one or two benches and the Pattonville Early Childhood Center, middle schools and Pattonville High School each received one bench.
